An applied study using generative AI to automatically convert patient-clinician conversations into clinical notes in SOAP/BIRP format.
Clinical documentation imposes a significant burden on healthcare professionals, leading to burnout, increased medical errors, and compromised patient safety. Manual note-taking is time-consuming and lacks consistency.
Patient-clinician conversations are transcribed using ASR, then structured prompts are provided to an LLM to generate draft notes in SOAP or BIRP format. A case study evaluates feasibility in real clinical settings.
Average time savings of over 2 hours per clinician per day, improved note completeness and consistency, enhanced patient-centered care. Ethical considerations (confidentiality, bias) are discussed, emphasizing the need for responsible deployment.
